Badge Series for SFSU Gateway Redesign

This badge series was created for the redesign of San Francisco State Universities Gateway webpage, which went live in June of 2021. The purpose of this series and the addition of the LaunchPad where the badges can be found, was to help make the Gateway easier to navigate for all students, faculty, and staff.
The first steps taken to start off this eight month long project were establishing an overall style for the badge series in order for them to stay consistent, sketching a few options per badge, then digitizing them. Further revisions were done once the badges were digitized and SM&C (the Strategic Marketing and Communications Department) gave their feedback. The colors used throughout the series are a combination of the Universities primary and secondary color pallets.
After getting an idea for the overall badge style, the next step was determining the treatment for the background tile that would best showcase the badge family. The treatment with the slight linear gradient was ultimately chosen and for contrast purposes, a lighter blue was agreed upon for the series.
Below are a few examples of how badges developed once digitized
